Volcane Spins

★★★★☆ 4.4 Editor rating

Volcane Spins is one of those arcade games that looks simple in a screenshot and then grabs twenty minutes of your life the first time you open it. You guide a little tumbling token across rotating rings suspended over a volcano, timing each hop so you land on the next platform before it spins away. The controls are a single tap to jump and a hold to delay, which sounds basic until the rings start moving in opposite directions.

We spent a good while with it and the thing that kept us playing was how readable everything stays even at speed. The glow of the lava reads as a clear danger zone, the safe rings have a cool blue edge, and the game never cheats you with a platform you couldn't have seen coming. The settings menu is surprisingly generous too: you can cap the frame rate to save battery, turn down the heat-haze effect, and switch to a high-contrast palette if the orange glare bothers your eyes.

Battery life held up better than we expected for something this animated. With the frame cap on, a long session barely warmed the phone. It's a one-hand game, perfect for short bursts, and the difficulty curve is fair rather than punishing. If you like tight timing games you can pick up and drop, it's an easy recommendation.
