Tilt, buttons or swipe: picking the right control scheme
Mobile controls are a quiet battleground. The same racing game can feel broken with tilt steering and brilliant with on-screen buttons, and most of it comes down to how you physically hold the phone.
Tilt works best when you're sitting still and holding the device in both hands. The moment you're on a moving train, tilt becomes a nightmare because every bump is an input. We've learned to default to buttons on the move.
Swipe controls are a middle ground. They're great for drifting and gestures but can misfire if your thumb drifts off its usual zone. The games that handle this well let you resize and reposition the on-screen controls, and that single setting is often the difference between frustration and comfort.
My rule of thumb: always check the control settings before you decide a game feels bad. Nine times out of ten there's a scheme that fits your grip, and the default just wasn't it.
